Matcha Whisk (Chasen)

CA$21.00

Our matcha whisk, known traditionally as a “chasen”, is made from biodegradable bamboo. Fantastic for whisking matcha to be used in a latte or enjoyed on it’s own.

The chasen is a traditional tool and is essential for preparing Matcha to get its smooth texture and its Crema. It is made from a single piece of bamboo with the end cut into several thin slivers to whisk the green tea powder into a small quantity of water. With a quick motion, the whisked tea is then fully emulsified and attains the proper texture as seen in the famous Japanese tea ceremony – the chanoyu.

How to care for your chasen:

  • Do not store it in its original plastic container. Because bamboo is a natural material and retains moisture, chasens can occasionally be susceptible to slight molding. No need for concern – just be sure your whisk is able to air dry. We store our whisk standing upright on its base in mild environment.

  • Should mold occur, place your chasen in boiling water.

  • In everyday use, do not wash your chasen with soap. Simply run it under hot water and remove all visible signs of matcha.

  • Pat your chasen dry.
